What Day of the Week Was I Born?

Most people have no idea which day of the week they were born on. Enter your birthday below and find out instantly — along with the nursery rhyme verdict on what that supposedly means.

Days of the Week: Birth Statistics

Are birthdays evenly distributed across the week? Roughly — but not perfectly. In most countries, slightly fewer babies are born on weekends because elective C-sections and induced labours are scheduled on weekdays.

The Nursery Rhyme

The traditional English nursery rhyme "Monday's Child" assigns a character trait to each birth day. It dates to around 1838 and has no scientific basis — but it's been quoted ever since:

DayTraditional verse
Monday"Fair of face"
Tuesday"Full of grace"
Wednesday"Full of woe"
Thursday"Has far to go"
Friday"Loving and giving"
Saturday"Works hard for a living"
Sunday"Bonny and blithe and good and gay"

How Day-of-Week Is Calculated

Finding the day of the week for any historical date is a classic maths problem. The most common algorithm is Zeller's congruence (1882), which uses modular arithmetic on the day, month, and year to produce a number 0–6 mapping to a day of the week.

JavaScript's Date object handles this directly: new Date('1990-05-13').getDay() returns 0 (Sunday) through 6 (Saturday). The calculator above uses this method — it's accurate for any date from 1583 onwards (Gregorian calendar).

Fun check: 1 January 2000 was a Saturday. 1 January 1900 was a Monday. Your birth year's 1 January can be a quick anchor to verify the result.
