Why a different kind of age calculator

Most age calculators do one thing: subtract your birth year from the current year. That gives you a number you already know. Find My Age was built to do something more interesting — to show you your age in a way that's genuinely surprising, and to give you time context that a single number doesn't provide.

Seeing that you are 10,950 days old hits differently than knowing you're 29. Watching your second count tick live past a billion is a specific kind of moment that an annual birthday never gives you. Knowing your life progress percentage — how much of an average lifespan you've lived — has a way of clarifying how you want to spend the time that remains. These numbers are all derived from the same birth date you type in, but they surface different ways of thinking about where you are in time.

The calculator also counts down to your next birthday in days, weeks, and days simultaneously — so you can see exactly how far away it is in whichever unit feels most intuitive to you.

How the calculations actually work

Age calculation sounds simple but has edge cases that most calculators get wrong. The main complication is leap years. A year is not exactly 365 days — it averages 365.2425 days when you account for the leap year cycle (leap years every 4 years, except every 100 years, except every 400 years). This means a 30-year-old has lived somewhere between 10,950 and 10,958 days depending on when exactly they were born relative to each February 29th.

Find My Age calculates your exact day count by iterating through each individual year since your birth date, checking which years were leap years and adding 366 or 365 accordingly. The result is precise, not estimated. Your seconds count is then derived from that exact day count, multiplied out to hours, minutes, and seconds from midnight on your birth date.

All of this runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your date of birth is entered into an input field that triggers a local calculation — nothing is ever sent to a server, stored in a database, or associated with any kind of identifier. The only data that exists is what's in your browser window while you have the page open.
